《Katie》: Yeah right you're melting, then why are you still standing there solid?  Fine, let's go in.

(They go back into the house)

《Sam》:  Ahhh... Air conditioner... Hey!  Let's get some soda and popcorn!
《Katie》: What for?

The Land of Adventure

~Written in 1st grade

     One summer afternoon, me and my family were playing in the extraordinary, sunny, Caribbean beach.  The sea was so, so, so blue that it looked like there was no sky.

    Then, I took my sand set out and started digging - then suddenly the ground began to shake… It was like an earthquake!!  The hot sun grew hotter and hotter - then HOTTER!!

    Then it was absolutely still, very still, I looked around – I saw a fairy.

How to Disguise Spy

-Get a few stuff and toys to pretend to not spy. Example: Hannah Montana walkie talkie so that the victim thinks you are just playing.

-Try your best to evesdrop.

-Don't stare or misteriously look at your victim or else she or he will think you are really spying on him or her.

-Don't be so quiet and busy evesdropping, play and make some noise, but not too loud or you won't hear anything.

-JUST TRY TO BLEND IN!!

Global Warming

Global warming is when the earth heats up and temperature rises. It harms many people, plants, and animals. It is caused by “greenhouse effect”.

GREENHOUSE EFFECT

Greenhouse effect is when the sun’s heat and rays gets trapped in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Gentoo penguin

Gentoos have a white patch like an eyebrow. They have long, stiff tail that stick out when they walk.

Did you know?

l      Gentoo penguins are the least abundant species of penguin found on the sub-Antarctic islands

l      No other penguin has the tail Gentoos have.

Chinstrap Penguin

The Chinstrap Penguin has a black strap or line on it’s chin.  They are not considered to be migratory.

Did you know?

l      For nesting, Chinstrap penguins often select lofty sites that are the first to become snow-free, to ensure the maximum amount of time to raise their chicks.

Rockhopper Penguin

Rockhopper Penguins are small, crested penguins.  They are given that name because they hop from rock to rock in a really cute way.  They live in the sub-Antarctic.

Magallanic Penguin are excellent long distant swimmers.  They have a ring on it’s neck.

Macaroni Penguin

The Macaroni Penguin is the Eudyptes chrysolophus penguin.  It is the largest of the 6 crested penguins.  The Macaroni, like all penguins is flightless.  They don’t fly but they sure are good swimmers, all penguins are.  There are 12 million pairs of them; they inhabit the Southern Antarctica with big breeding population in South Georgia Islands, and Falkland Islands.

It is different from other crested penguins; they are mostly confused with the Royal Penguin.  But Macaronis mostly have black faces and the Royal have white.

GALAPANGOS PENGUIN

     Galapangos are the smallest warm weather penguins.  Galapangos are not migratory;  they stay in the same water all year round.

    Fairy Penguins are the smallest penguins in the world.  They are also called Little Blues because of their indigo color.

Emperor Penguin

The Emperor Penguin is the most interesting penguin to study.  They remain in Antarctica permanently.  They do not build nests of shelters, only using their warm bodies to warm the eggs.  Emperors are the only penguins in Antarctica that breed in winter. 

AFRICAN PENGUIN

      African penguins are also known as black footed penguin.  They are similar to the Galapagos penguins.  They can be found in Africa.

ADELIE PENGUIN

   The Adelie Penguin is one of the most famous and wellknown penguin.  It is the stereotypical penguin, it is well-known because it’s “tuxedo” shirt on the front of his chest.  It’s beak is reddish with a black dot on the tip.

In winter, Adelies stay on the iceberg.  They usually lay eggs in November; the female goes out to sea first and leaves the male with the eggs to stand alone in 10 days. 

Hatching occurs after 35 days.  The chicks grow really fast and become almost as large as their parents.  Then the chicks huddle in a nursery group called crèches for warmth and protection.  By late March, the chicks can swim and can live by itself.

沙灘上的惡夢

某個夏天的下午，我和我的家人去加勒比海玩，陽光、沙灘、海水‧‧‧好酷喔！！

海水非常藍，過了不久，我拿出玩具開始挖沙，這時候沙地突然搖晃起來，OMG！！！ 是地震ㄟ！

過了幾秒鐘，大地停下來了。 我看看四周，發現了一個小精靈，他有一對閃亮發光的翅膀，好美喔！ 接著在黑暗中，出現了一道彩虹，一層一層的彩色階梯通向一座神秘的空中森林。

好奇的我一步一步走上階梯去探險，原來是一座美麗的花園，也是小精靈的家鄉。 可是，不又以前來了一個又兇又壞的大怪獸，牠吃了所以有的花，從此再也長不出花了。

我一步一步走向更深那一邊，這時突然跑出一隻大怪獸伸出手‧‧‧「阿！！」我嚇得睜開眼睛，

「咦？ 我怎麼躺在床上呢？」
