Chinstrap Penguin

The Chinstrap Penguin has a black strap or line on it’s chin.  They are not considered to be migratory.

Did you know?

l      For nesting, Chinstrap penguins often select lofty sites that are the first to become snow-free, to ensure the maximum amount of time to raise their chicks.

l      Chinstraps are regarded as one of the bolder and more pugnacious of the17 penguin species.

l      They can dive to a maximum of 230 feet; with most dives lasting for just half a minute.

l      They climb out of the water and up steep slopes using all four limbs and they are able to jump large distances to reach footholds.
